Billie Ruth Young Entrepreneurs Program

The Ida Bell Foundation proudly introduces the Billie Ruth Young Entrepreneurs Program, a structured youth development initiative established in loving remembrance of Billie Ruth Wilson—an extraordinary woman, self-made Black entrepreneur, and steadfast pillar of the 75th Street community.

Billie Ruth Wilson’s life exemplified perseverance, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others. For more than three decades, she worked as an independent contractor for the Yellow Pages, employing and mentoring multiple generations of individuals from her community as telephone book delivery personnel. Through this work, she created meaningful employment opportunities while instilling responsibility, discipline, and pride in honest work.

Beyond her work with the Yellow Pages, Billie Ruth demonstrated a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit. With a sharp business mind, creative vision, and craftsman’s skill, she restored furniture, refurbished household items, and transformed overlooked pieces into valued treasures. As the owner and manager of her own thrift store, she proved that innovation, resourcefulness, and determination could turn simple ideas into successful ventures. She believed that what others discarded still held worth—and she built opportunity from that belief.

Inspired by her legacy, the Billie Ruth Young Entrepreneurs Program serves children ages 7 to 12 by introducing foundational principles of entrepreneurship, early childhood education, food safety, and food sanitation. Operating within the Ida Bell Foundation Childcare setting, the program provides structured, hands-on, supervised learning experiences that cultivate leadership, professionalism, accountability, and business awareness at an early age.

Through guided instruction and practical application, participants build confidence, strengthen character, and develop essential life and career readiness skills. The program instills strong work ethics, emphasizes safety, and nurtures a mindset of innovation and service.

The Billie Ruth Young Entrepreneurs Program stands as a living tribute to a woman whose legacy continues to inspire. It reflects her lifelong dedication to community empowerment and her belief that with hard work, vision, and heart, success is within reach.
